Creating a culture of belonging

SC@PPS : Building a community where everyone belongs

At APPS, transformation and diversity aren’t just words – they’re the cornerstones of our vibrant learning community. Social Connection @ APPS (SC@PPS) plays a vital role in making our school a place where every girl can thrive and reach her full potential.

Social Connection at APPS

Our committee exists of a team of dedicated staff working tirelessly to create culture of belonging for all:

Celebrate diversity: We recognise and value the unique experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives each girl brings to APPS. SC@PPS champions inclusivity and creates opportunities for everyone to feel seen, heard, and understood.

Promote transformation: SC@PPS actively works to identify and dismantle any barriers that might hinder inclusivity. They advocate for policies and practices that ensure equity and fairness for all members of our school family.

Empower our girls:  SC@PPS creates a space where open dialogue and critical thinking are encouraged. This empowers our girls to become confident, compassionate leaders who embrace diversity in all its forms.

True excellence thrives in a diverse and inclusive environment

At APPS, we believe that true excellence thrives in a diverse and inclusive environment. That’s why SC@PPS plays a vital role in shaping our school community.

Wellness at APPS

A holistic approach to what it takes to thrive

Nestled in its close-knit community, our small school fosters wellbeing through a comprehensive wellness programme. In dedicated classes, students delve into topics like mindfulness, self-regulation, healthy eating habits, and stress management, equipping them with practical tools to navigate their academic and personal lives.

Beyond the classroom, a dedicated wellness coordinator provides individual support and resources to ensure each student thrives.

Reaching Out

Let there be light …

Our motto, “Fiat Lux” works quietly within the collective spirit of APPS. We learn and grow from the relationships we foster with our community partners, and this goes beyond gestures of sharing, giving, and receiving.

The first outreach project at APPS – a concert and tea at the Guild Cottage – was held very early on in 1923. Our outreach is one of the variety of ways we encourage students to share, give, make and take, and to show that ‘there is light’.

We share what we have in the form of collections, the making of products or donations of food and clothes as frequently and widely as possible.

Helping out

Our outreach partner school, Salvazione Christian School, was established in 1991 to positively impact young lives, realise better futures, and light a path to success. We host staff workshops for them, and have a Saturday school, where the children can attend our Learning Centre at APPS to improve their Mathematics, Science, English, Art, IT and sports skills.

We give of ourselves individually through service to animal shelters, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, the environment and people with special needs. We raise funds for other schools and organisations, always with the reminder that we take with us the lessons learnt from acts of humility.

Parent-Teacher Association: Together, Making a Difference

Parent-Teacher Association

More than fundraising

While the PTA plays a vital role in fundraising throughout the year – through events like the popular APPS Golf Day and the delightful Music Picnic – their impact goes far beyond raising money. They are the heart of our community, fostering connections and building a strong sense of belonging for all.

The magic of collaboration

The PTA organises a variety of events throughout the year, bringing parents, teachers, and students together in a spirit of fun and collaboration. These events offer opportunities to:

  • Build relationships: Whether it’s cheering on our athletes at a sporting event or enjoying a relaxing afternoon at the Music Picnic, PTA events create a space for parents, teachers, and students to connect and build lasting relationships.
  • Support the school: Through fundraising initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources that enrich the educational experience for our girls. This might include funding for new equipment, scholarships, or special programmes.

Celebrate together: The PTA organises events that showcase the talents and achievements of our students, fostering school spirit and creating lasting memories.

Communication and connection

The PTA also plays a crucial role in maintaining open communication channels between the school and the parent body. They regularly share updates and information, ensuring parents feel informed and involved.

We invite you to get involved with the APPS PTA and experience the joy of making a difference, together.

Lighthouse Trust

We understand that when faced with financial hardship, the future of your child’s education can become your biggest concern.

The Lighthouse Trust offers temporary financial assistance to families who have been a part of APPS for five years or more, and who are experiencing financial hardship.

Since 2001, we have helped 320 girls to remain at our school.

Five trustees manage the Lighthouse Trust and they meet once every school term. The trustees award bursaries to APPS pupils on a financial needs basis and parents can feel confident that all applications are treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Parents who are faced with financial difficulties may obtain a bursary application form from the bursar.

Funding for the Lighthouse Trust comes largely from donations within our school community, and we thank all parents who have generously contributed.

The Lighthouse Trust is audited annually.
