Towards the end of last year, we had the privilege of experiencing what it is like to have a pen pal. It was a great opportunity to make new friends, learn new languages and discover more about South Korea. We started off our conversations on email and some of us then got our pen pals on iMessage and WhatsApp.  We shared photos, videos and messages about the things we do here in South Africa, like what we eat and the activities we do. For some of us it was interesting to hear how late they wake up and go to sleep, what they do after school like taekwondo; and finding out about their tasty, gripping, exotic food.

Just over six months after we started talking to them, we received a package from them. It had traditional soap, masks with the Korean and South African flags on them, tea cosies, pendants and badges. We quickly got working on a box for them.

We sent a box full of South African goodies, like a cookbook filled with recipes for South African delicacies, keyrings with our names signed, funky African flag stickers as well as beaded African animals. On behalf of the Grade 7 girls, we really hope they enjoy the box we sent as much as we enjoyed the one they sent us!
