On 18 September 2021 we celebrated the Fireside Tales and Heritage Day in style.  We were delighted that so many people came and enjoyed the senior phase items along with their families after a long and busy sports morning.  We had fun as families had 18 months of not being allowed to enter due to Covid regulations and the longing for togetherness was obvious.

Whilst everyone was enjoying each other’s company and delicious food from stalls as well as self-catered, the APPS Grade 4 to 7 girls were performing their outstanding traditional items taught by Mama Ndaba.  We had marimbas and traditional dancing by Grade 5, gumboot dancing by Grade 6 and international dancing by Grade 7, including poems and drumming.  Our cherry on top was watching our own staff members drumming with joy.

We were honoured to have Diepkloof Arts and Project young men and women to demonstrate in style gumboot and traditional dance.  The Furamera family enlightened us about their culture, and it was delightful to listen to their stories and drumming.  Ms Ndamase taught us an important life lesson story of Nongqawuze.  Yolanda Faniswa from AB Xuma School in Soweto shared two beautiful poems with us.

We are grateful to have celebrated these important APPS events on the same day.  It brought nations together and unity at our school.

Thank you to Mama Ndaba, Miss Nkonde and everyone who made this day a success.
