Grade 7 AMESA – Round 3 and Wits Maths Competition
Wits Mathematics Competition
The following girls wrote the final round of the Wits Maths competition:
Grade 5:  Emily Muller and Sarah von Gottberg Cohen
Grade 6:  Rachel Moultrie
Grade 7:  Aziza Carim, Maya Ndegwa, Nina Sheridan

Writing the Wits maths Olympiad was an amazing experience.
Even though it was challenging it was very rewarding to be exposed to such cool new maths questions.  We wrote two rounds, and we were all very honoured to be able to write.  I am very grateful to Ms de Wet for helping me so much through this process, and to everyone who made it possible for me to write this.  We hope that we will be able to write again next year!
Rachel Moultrie – Grade 6

The following girls participated in the third round of the AMESA Challenge:
Grade 5:  Sarah von Gottberg Cohen
Grade 6:  Rachel Moultrie and Georgia van der Walt

Walking into the giant hall and taking a seat next to my friend, Rachel Moultrie, was terrifying, but after a couple minutes we met new friends from other schools and settled down in our seats for the practice paper.
The practice paper was about Egyptian fractions, and was an exciting and interesting learning experience.  Then it was time for the real paper.  I took a deep breath and placed my sharpened pencil on the paper.  I wrote.  I enjoyed the experience, and I found it incredibly challenging, but in a good way.
Georgia van der Walt – Grade 6

We are very proud to announce that Sarah von Gottberg-Cohen received a silver award which means that she was one of the top ten pupils who wrote the third round of the AMESA Challenge.  We are very proud of you Sarah – well done!
