It has been a pleasure welcoming five Grade 4 girls and Amy Gear in Grade 7 to the Chess Club.  Our two Captains for the term were Emma Louw and Gabriella Wostmann.  Both girls carried out their duties well and were true APPS ambassadors.

The weekly practice sessions allow the girls to continuously hone their skills.  Much competition takes place each week and placement on the ladder has been exceptionally vibrant this term.  The girls managed to play two matches; one against St David’s, which APPS won and one against Trinity House – Waterfall, which APPS lost.

The highlight of the term was the annual Girls and Guests Chess Evening.  This year proved once again to be a superb evening of interaction and fun.  The girls won the first round of games and the guests won the second round, thereby resulting in a tie.  Refreshments for the guests were kindly supplied by Grade 7 parents and organised by Lou Louw.

Many thanks to Mrs Louw for organising all the home chess suppers.  Thank you to Mrs Pengelly, who continues to coach our girls, and thank you to the Service Staff, who quietly organise the set up for home matches.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
