The Chess Team has played five matches this term, winning two.  The girls played consistently and gave their opponents a good run for their money.  The team was ably led by Ruby Jenkins (Captain) and Kate Dixon (Vice Captain), both girls being true APPS ambassadors.

The weekly practice sessions are well attended with the girls honing their skills each week.  Mrs Pengelly continues to guide each member, developing new strategies and game plans.  Her valuable input is greatly appreciated.  Thank you to Mrs Dixon and Mrs Jenkins for organising the pizza suppers for home matches, as well as to all the parents who offered transport for the away matches.

Check Mate!  Our chess games this term were filled with fun and whispers of success.  We played against many different schools, and had mixed fortunes.  In our hearts we have won every game we’ve played.  Even though we all play separate games, we win together as a team.  This is all because of the hours we have spent sitting and thinking together in our ‘brainbox’ (Miss Sebreegts’ classroom) where we work hard to climb the ladder of chess success.  After our short matches we unite outside and eat delicious food with the other schools (APPS provides the best food).  Time flies while we play chess and we have all worked exceptionally hard to accomplish our chess goals.  Our school will always have a special place for all our thirty two chess pieces.
